Ahuriri Station

The Angus and Stabilizer® offered for sale from Ahuriri Station have been bred as part of the Focus Genetics cattle breeding programme at Rissington Station and Pohuetai Farms. These animals represent some of the best of the bulls bred on those properties and will be sold at our bull selling facility at Ahuriri Station.

Like all animals in the programme, the breeding objective is focused on commercially relevant traits such as calving ease, cow efficiency and eating quality, with the overall improvement in these eBVs being reflected in significant gain in both API and SRI indexes for Angus, and $Profit index for Stabilizer. We are particularly excited about the progress made within our Angus programme.

Having one of the largest recorded Angus herds in New Zealand with over 1,900 females coupled with the 650 Stabilizer and 350 Simmental cows, ensures that Focus Genetics remains well positioned to supply the beef sector with sires that will drive profit within the farmers gate.

STABILIZER®

The Stabilizer® breed is a multi-breed composite developed by Leachman Cattle Company. The breed is based on over 30 years of research at the Meat Animal Research Centre, Clay Centre, Nebraska.

The original composition was based on 25% of four breeds: Angus, Hereford, Simmental and Gelbvieh. Stabilizer® combines the fleshing ability, marbling and moderate size of the British breeds with the muscle, milk and growth of the European breeds. As a four breed composite the Stabilizer® retains 75% of the F1 hybrid vigor. The females over the lifetime are proven to wean 23% more weight than their purebred counterparts. They are polled breed, either red or black in colour, and can be found in wide range of environments in NZ, USA, South America, Australia and the UK.
